Just 28 km from Enjo Nature Farm has been a Moravian mission station since 1865 and the little village today is little changed with an old thatched church, a store and neat little cottages lining the main street, making a visit worthwhile. There is an shoe factory where the work is still original and a rooibos tea soap factory with a range of lovely products in their shop. For meals at Lekkerbeckie, the little coffee shop its better to arrange beforehand.

This is what December at Enjo is all about!! Fun, friends, family!thanks @pcalitz for being such awesome guests! Posted @withrepost “A few moments from a wonderful camping getaway with our friends the VZ’s yo our favourite place, @enjonaturefarm Over 3 days/nights we had rain on the way there, a very chilly first night, super strong winds on night two and then the most beautifully scorching hot summers day and night on the last day. As usual, we pretty much spent all our time at the pool, which has got to be up there with the best places to swim in this country. There was some running, biking, napping, braaing with a fair bit of beer and wine drinking scattered throughout. It was perfect. Can’t wait to go back again.” . . . . . #enjonaturefarm #summerholidays #december #southafrica #africanskyblue #biedouwvalley #clanwilliam #travelwesterncape #campingsouthafrica #guestfarm #travellikealocalza #sacountrylife #hellocapetown #eacapetothecape

Biedouw Valley

The beautiful, fertile Biedouw Valley hemmed in by the Biedouw Mountains to the north, and to the south by the Tra-Tra Mountains, just 32 kilometres from Clanwilliam in the Cederberg.

The essence of the Biedouw Valley is captured just after the rains, when it becomes endowed with an array of spring flowers that capture the imagination of many a visitor here. Local farmers restrict their herds from grazing in the valley during the flower season to assist this glory. Yellow-and-white nemesias nestle alongside blue heliophilas, gazanias, mauve senecios and an array of succulent vygies that are enough to take your breath away.

The Cedarberg Mountains and the area around the Biedouw Valley are a joy to explore. Hikes and walks abound and, although very hot during the summer months, the calming and impressive landscape, endless view to the Karoo and beauty of it all lets visitors return.

If you come from Cape Town, follow the N7 to the north until you hit the turn off to Clanwilliam. Follow the sign to Clanwilliam and get petrol at the petrol station which you will see on your left when entering Clanwilliam. Continue straight past the petrol station. After 40 km (past Travellers Rest and Bushmenskloof) turn right onto the gravel road to Biedouw Valley/Wupperthal. After 14 km turn left into the Biedouw Valley and continue for another 11 km.
Watch the gates; you will pass two of them.
You made it to the farm!!
If you come from the Karoo side, be aware that the Doring River is mostly impossible to cross at Uitspankral in winter as there is no bridge there. Slightly to the north you will get a bridge at Doring Bos and then reach Enjo Nature Farm via the Botterkloof Pass.

Most parts of this area do not have cell phone reception.

Nestled at the foot of the Cederberg Mountain range, just over two hours drive from Cape Town lies the little town of Clanwilliam. Regarded as the only town in the world where rooibos is planted and cultivated, it is also famous for its locally made veldskoens or leather shoes.

Clanwilliam is one of the ten oldest towns in South Africa and a historical walk through the town centre take you from the original farmhouse of Jan Disselsvalleij via the museum to an 1820 Settlers house.

To experience first-hand the paintings and motifs of the Bushmen, the Clanwilliam Living Landscape Project, a local empowerment programme, offers a rock art trail on which trained guides facilitate an exploration of the paintings as a journey across the landscape.

The annual Wild Flower show in August/September is renowned. The area around Clanwilliam blooms magnificent during the Spring flower season.

One route option to Enjo Nature Farm leads you through the popular town Ceres, which is situated in the Warmbokkeveld (Afrikaans: "warm antelope field") Valley about 170 km north-east of Cape Town on your way to our farm. Ceres is located at the north-eastern entrance to Michells Pass. The area around Ceres is extremely fertile and is a major producer of South Africa's

It was named after the Roman goddess of agriculture, a name which is fitting as the valley in which the town is situated is extremely fertile and is a major producer of South Africa's citrus fruit.

Ceres is famous locally for winter snow and cherries: Capetonians flock to the town during winter to ski or simply play in the powder.

Discover nature as close and as intense as possible!

There are lovely hiking trails on the farm varying from a 40 min sundowner-walk to a 3,5 hour hike up our mountains into our stunning Oskloof and to our mountain spring. You will enjoy view points and pick-nick places along the trail and can discover the beautiful and versatile vegetation of the Biedouw Valley. For those who want to make a full day hike there is an extremely nice hike to the top of Krakadouw Mountain closeby.

Spring Flowers in Biedouw Valley

From July till September the Biedouw Valley is covered in spring flowers and guests come from all over the world to witness this spectacle of nature.

Mountain biking

Many of our guests bring their mountain bike along and cycle up our jeep track into our impressive Oskloof and enjoy the view far over the Karoo or they brave the trip to Wupperthal with a scenic route through the Tra Tra Valley and a steep descend into the little missionary village. In Wupperthal you can see how the traditional "feldskoene" and other leather shoes are still made by hand and refresh in nice rock pools. As a nice alternative to the steep Wupperthal cycle route you can explore our beautiful Biedouw Valley into the other direction for about 24 km till you hit the Doring River bed which is filled with water from about April till January.

Swimming and Paddleing

Our Spring fed swimming dam is filled with water all year round and invites for a swim. Our guests can relax on wooden decks around the dam on sunbeds and on sunny days a little pool on its side is filled with warm water which is great for kids or to enjoy your sundowner. The Biedouw River has water from about April till mid January and is wonderful to swim and play in. There are paddle skis and a paddle boat at a natural dam on the farm for our guests to use as well.

Kids love bottle feed our lambs during lambing season. Our cats, dogs and horses love the attention of our guests, if big or small, and will most likely pay you a visit.
The evenings and nights on Enjo invite you to admire the breathtaking Cederberg night-sky. As the mountains block off all lights from the towns we have hardly any light-pollution out here and the stars are unbelievable bright and clear.

Not only for rainy days we have converted one of the horse stables into a games room with Pool Table, Dartboard and board games for the young and the old.

Rocklands in Cederberg Mountain Range

There is a nice 4x4 route on one of our neighbouring farms and also our short jeep track can be driven by the adventurers. The Sevilla Rock Art Trail with its many Bushman paintings and the roibos tea production in the Biedouw Valley are more attractions in the area. Rocklands, the world known climbing area on and around Pakhuis Pass is also close by.
